Hanwang to Sell E-book Readers, Set Up R&D Team in Taiwan

Hanwang Technology chairman said on August 12, 2010 that the company plans to launch the sales of e-book readers in Taiwan starting from next month and set up a R&D team in Taipei at the end of 2010, according to the Commercial Times of Taiwan. Hanwang is a China-based e-book reader manufacturer, and the company accounted for a share of more than 70% in the Chinese e-book market in the first quarter this year, according to the same source. At initial stage, Hanwang is expected to promote its 5- and 6-inch e-book readers in the Taiwanese market, and the company aims at selling 2,000 to 3,000 units per month.

To strengthen the relationships with Taiwanese partners, such as E Ink, Foxconn, ASUS, and Inventec Appliances, Hanwang also decides to set up a branch office in Taipei. It is reported that the new Taipei office will focus on R&D, and the company plans to hire 80 employees to this end.
